I went looking for elk today at the Pt. Reyes tule elk reserve, and had a bit of luck seeing some, but they were pretty far off. I only got this fuzzy shot of a male, through the fog with a 300+ 2Xtc. Not real good image quality, but an impressive rack on this guy.

I need to get up to Rocky Mountain National Park for some elk shots and, with luck, moose. I usually go in late September, which, around here, is when the big bulls have claimed their harems. Maybe I should go earlier and I'll luck out and capture bulls fighting. Once the big guys have their harems they chase of the interlopers quite easily.
