If the coolant levels are fine and the car isn't overheating and there's no "sweet" smell (which would be indicative of coolant) then it doesn't sound like the cooling system....
The only thing I can think of is condensation from the A/C hitting something hot on the engine or exhaust system--but usually that drains under the car and not into the engine bay.
Does this happen when using the A/C and not when the A/C isn't used?
I'm sure there are others here with more knowledge than I will offer up some suggested checks. There's always the dealer if this is something that's consistent and repeatable....
