The prius is just average on highway. It really shine in city driving conditions. If you rack a lot of hway miles, you are better off with an economic petrol or even better with diesel.
Look at the Mazda3 skyactiv and the Jetta (TDI or not), and the Ford Focus, they are strong performers too.
