Even if it were true it's not that big of a deal for someone of wealth. Well not necessarily wealth since with him you never know hes gone bankrupt many times.
But basically you hear of rich people doing great deeds and I hate to be cynical but many times its not always to be nice. They can easily turn around and file it when taxes are due.
My parents left $100-200 tip once, she did have to serve about 8-10 of us plus my parents were drunk.
