We've never had an issue with the LED coming detached from the lightsource from overheating - this is why the oversized heatsink is supplied, it's an additional margin of safety.

With the number of AiB kits on the market (in the hundreds), this type of problem would have come up sooner or much more frequently. Another possibility could be the LED wires were pulled during installation - creating too much heat in a centralized location for the heatsink to properly dissipate.

As with all returns, the kit will be inspected once received to find out what happened.
