I'm sure the Tirerack would love to sell you some runflat tires. It sounds like you realize that you will be losing performance by changing to them. I am not aware of any modifications that would need to be made to run the tires. If you puncture a runflat tire you might still have to replace it though. The runflat just allows you to continue on your trip till you can get to a tire store to have the tire repaired or replaced. There are not many choices in the form of runflat tires. The Tirerack site lets you search for only runflat tires I believe.
