Most anti-virus's wont do shit once you do get a virus, the best way to be safe is to not be stupid about what you download. Been running without an anti-virus for over a year now and have had no problems since i always know what im downloading
For torrents, make sure they have comments on them saying 'thanks' or anything like that. Most likely if it is a virus, someone will comment saying so.
