Your statement that Porsche diffs are worse than M3 diffs is totally ridiculous. How did you come to this conclusion? Did you drive the M3 balls-out yet on the track? Or did you base that on public road driving?

In regards to the balance, yes the M3 feels a little more planted, but after some wheel time you will realize that the M3 is a heavy boat, again, an incredible performer for that much weight. But if you really push a 911 you appreciate how (relatively) light they are, which translates to a little busy steering feel when you dive into the corner (the 991 does that much better now due to the wider front track), but it is something you get used to over time.

In the end I think the M3 is incredible, best bang for your buck, and it is very hard to justify to pay that much more for a 911 when the M3 offers so much unless you are a total 911 fan.
It sounds to me you never drove a 911 on a track or at the limit, which is totally fine and most owners don't do that, but if you would you'd come to a very different conclusion.
Actual diffs on Porsches have serious problems. You may check www.rennlist.com -- 997.1 GT3's diffs wear out very fast, 997.2 GT3's diffs also -- You may ask Matt at Guards Transmission -- Lots of Porsche owners update the internals or change the diffs, they are really very weak !

I drove 997.2 C4S and 996 GT3 on track -- C4S not a track car... GT3 perfect for the track, but too much compromisos for the road...

Modern 911's like Carrera S or Carrera 4S are slightly better than E92 M3, but not lots better...

GT3 is perfect and unique, incredible at the track, but too many compromisos for road use...

I had a 1990 964 Carrera 4S -- Incredible quality the interior, hand made

Also had a 2009 Carrera 4S -- The E92 M3 I prefer its interior

And my last Porsche was a 996 GT3 -- I had to change the seats for Recaro buckets, as I was sliding too much inside...

I agree with the op on interior quality, technology, and dct is on another level than the Porsche but that's about it.
True, yes, but in the end I was only able to drive my 997.2 C4S 2-3 times a month as it could not be used as a daily driver. I felt the car a bit better than the E92 M3, but very Little bit... I can use the E92 M3 every day, no problem with that... So why own a modern Porsche ? -- GT3 yes, Carrera S or 4S no !

2007 Carrera S much inferior than 2009 Carrera S -- E46 M3 can keep up with 997.1 Carrera S easily

I went to PSDS (Porsche Sport Driving School) in Alabama for 2 different driving courses -- The 997.2 Carrera S felt nice on the track, but not encouraging... I felt the Cayman S was a much better car, but underpowered for marketing purposes to protect sales of the 911... Also drove a Boxster Spyder, very capable with PDK !

Generally speaking 911 is better than M3, no doubt about that. But modern 911's are less engaging to drive, soul less... If I can have an M3 and a GT3 on my garage, yes !!!!!!!

But an M3 and a normal 911, no.......
