Maybe that's exactly why BMWNA currently doesn't have any plans for limited/special editions for North America. Does any one have numbers comparing US sales vs. other regions of the M3? I could see these limited editions as a marketing scheme to get more sales or help familiarize other regions with the ///M brand.
The reason behind the US Market not getting these special editions is because of what it costs to bring the car to market. It is much cheaper to bring a special edition M to the UK or China or anywhere else than the US. It is extremely expensive to bring these cars to market in the US because of our crash and safety laws. For example, if you add any thicker leather to the seats, it needs to be crash tested.

BMW would have to crash so many of these special edition cars that it doesn't make sense to even bring it to the US market.
