Same here in an '08, so should work on ALL M3s.
OP, if you can make a USB work it's the best solution. No need to charge it, doesn't fail, and nobody wants to steal it .
Plus you can manipulate the information any way you want. I make the info fit on my iDrive screen, and put the album name before the track number, then shorten song name if necessary to fit.
