I'm wondering what you're talking about. IF, a big IF, my 5D2 gives focus confirmation (beep, beep), then I don't notice any lag compared to my 7D. It does have more trouble gaining AF and when it's not locked on it refuses to shoot. That's not lag, IMHO, but AF failure.
It could be that I'm not as sensitive as you, but I'd think that I'd notice when shooting moving wildlife. (I make darn sure the silly thing has locked on).
