I'm amused that a lot of folks here would probably beat each other up to be the first to get DTM angel eyes on their M3 but they think these stripes are just poseur stripes.
Various M stripe iterations have been historically found on BMW's safety cars, DTM cars, F1 cars, and other track cars including the Ring Taxi. These are your E9x M3's true roots. BMW puts them on their "Real" M cars.
These stripes are definitely not for everyone, myself included, but BMW sure does use them a lot.
