Microsoft has been granted a patent for its “avoid ghetto” feature for GPS devices.
A GPS device is used to find shortcuts and avoid traffic, but Microsoft’s patent states that a route can be plotted for pedestrians to avoid an “unsafe neighborhood or being in an open area that is subject to harsh temperatures.”

I wonder what criteria they use to determine if it is a place you want to avoid, you can not assume all people want to void certain areas. I wonder if they do some sort of user profile first and make suggestion on areas to stay out of. There are place in the deep south that non-rednecks should avoid as well. Just ask the Topgear guys, they almost got shot.
BTW, this feature seems like of racist.
