Plus it's implemented differently in the 535i (2012) vs. M3 (2012).

After the 535i reaches a certain temp start/stop will engage when the vehicle is stopped, no matter how softly or firmly the brake pedal is depressed.

The M3 (2012) is different. Start/stop will only engage if the brake pedal is firmly depressed. So if done correctly the M3 can be stopped with start/stop engaged without it activating. I do this all the time in stop and go traffic, and only activate it if I know for sure I'm going to sit for a while.
