I got the Portercable and I think it's the perfect starter polisher because there's virtually no way to burn the paint.

Merzerna has some good stuff. For me the Power Finish seemed to work with almost everything except the deepest scratches, also it helps save a step

unless you need that perfect shine after intensive polishing.
