In a very real (but probably unintended) sense, you are correct! Van Hooydonk spoke of Designworks in the Bimmer interview. This is a daughter company of BMW Group that employs designers of all kinds of conventional things... laptops, boats, cell phones, etc. van Hooydonk reveals, "they not only know what things are going to look like, they also know how things are going to work in four or five years. We have a unique and good setup that gives us information about the world at large."

Therefore, the way we, collectively as a culture, vote on the design of our everyday gadgets in some small way provides material input for the design of future Bimmers. I think that is very indeed!
