Interesting stuff. I was talking about a similar topic with a friend of mine concerning the city we both grew up in (neither of us live there now)

A large automotive assembly plant was a large source of income to many people in the city. It recently shut it's doors as the cars are no longer being produced (crown victorias)

as a result of this, several thousand people have become unemployed in the city. We are waiting and watching to see what happens with crime rates and the job market in the city to see what short/long term effects will happen. We are both expecting to see a huge division of the rich and the low income to become more prevalent.

I liked the city I grew up in, but that city is going to become a memory of it's better days as things are going to become complicated fast.

Only time will tell how things will turn out. And i guess what we are watching is basically a micro version of what's being talked about here.

Very sad, but very informative.
