I agree with your assessment for the most part. The only semi-expensive sports cars I see on a regular basis are Corvettes, including quite a few Z06s too. I think most are GM employees or friends and relatives thereof who get them for really cheap. There's also some Jaguar XK's. Two in my neighborhood in fact. Vipers are probably the next most common but are still pretty rare. Again, I think these two are probably Ford and Chrysler employees.
I will also see a Porsche 996 or 997 once and a while and I've seen a couple Aston Vantages around too. But these are rare sitings - maybe only one every month or two.

Canton, huh? Quite a few people I know live there, so I've spent quite a bit of time in the area.
Yeah, you're totally right. Corvettes are quite common. Don't recall seeing any Z06s. Saw Vipers fairly often and there are definitely a ton of standard issue Jaguars, Hummers, MBs, and BMWs in the Farmington Hills area. There is definitely a far higher percentage of American cars in general (cheap or expensive) there due to the Big 3. My grandfather actually was a designer for GM (head designer of the Corvair, did the suspension for the '63 Vette I believe, quite a few others) and was none too happy with most of my car choices.
Biggest thing I miss about Michigan is driving 85-90 on 696. Here the average speed is like 60mph. It's quite maddening sometimes. I saw at least one Gallardo on 696 driving home from work in Royal Oak.
