Of course it's a matter of taste and if your reasons are practical (enjoy cool surface during summer, warm during winter, less sliding on track), then it makes sense so-to-speak.
Well nothing says luxury like a dyed cow hide!.... just kidding...understand your points.... for me, I am sick of taking care of leather and I want the least amount of it possible, $900 is a lot for a few extra sections of leather, I dig the stripes down the middle....
