Hi Mike, before I begin, thanks for the reply. I know you are quite knowledgeable with this stuff... So its nice to hear your input:

I am specifically refering to : http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...66&postcount=5

I'll save you the click:

"There are two types of control units that cannot be programmed with WinKFP: CAS and ECU (I can say for sure for the M3). Both are protected by electronic signatures that cannot be provided by WinKFP, only with ISTA.

Alas, WinKFP first clears the programming without a hitch, but gives an error when it tries to program the new file into the unit. Essentially, it is dead afterwards and can only be revived with better equipment.
"

2 Qs:

Does any of the above make sense?

I hope I am not asking too much, but have you ever WinKFP'd a CAS on the E9X M3 series? Don't mean this in the aggressive sense, just want to get confirmation from someone who has updated their / a CAS via WinKFP before.

Would really love to get the CAS up to the latest revision as I am a bit freaked out with the ease of theft of these vehicles with the older CAS firmware. I know its probably not fool proof, but at least a step in the right direction to make adding a key a bit more difficult.

BTW : I have a proper ICOM cable. And I also have a MAAS SPS-50 power supply I used when upgrading all the other modules. Its a 55AMP power supply @ 13.8V.

If I recall correctly it will flash three different areas, so don't worry about it going to 100% 3 times.

Proper voltage during this flash is crucial - if it fails the car will be rendered inoperable. You can recover the CAS by soldering tons of wires to the board and bench flashing the processor, but believe me you'll want to avoid this in the first place.
