It's a fair deal
I bought my D40 June 07 from B&H Photo and paid $570, plus $78 in accessories. I'm very pleased with the quality of the images and the flexibility of the camera. My biggest complaint is that the packaged lens is of medium quality and if you replace the lens with better glass, then you will loose the auto focus feature. This is because the camera lacks an internal focus drive motor and requires a lens with a built in drive motor.
