I bring my own sponges, car shampoo (BMW's or Meguire's Gold), two buckets, and 3 jugs of water (because it is almost impossible to fill your buckets with water using the high-pressure nozzles at the self car wash without getting yourself completely soaked.)
Have you seen the 1 gallon Crystal Geyser jugs at the supermarket? I re-use those and refill with tap water before heading out. You could use distilled water as well, but it would be sort of pointless because you would be rinsing the car from tap at the self wash anyways.
