I've heard of this before but never tried it myself. Usually people say Hawk blues will work for this as they are extremely abrasive, though I imagine other full track pads will work as well.

Another thing you can do is measure the rotor at various points from the inside to outside to see if the surface has become uneven. This would also likely be apparent from running your finger along the rotor though.
