The reason why people mod their exhausts is because BMW must still have a certain restriction to them to make it DOT certified. Other after market exhausts are more free flowing & produce a meaner sound. It's not for everybody...... but, it is for a few. Those few put exhausts
There is a science of getting the right "note" out of the exhaust too.
Not to mention performance gains and styling appeal as well.........
