Sounds like the classic 1911 "idiot scratch", on almost every 1911 due to poor reassembly habits. The slide stop can be hard to reinsert, and many wind up rotating it into place. And voila!, you get the scratch.
Not sure your shop is going to do anything for you, just say that "you did it" when you reassembled the pistol.....
