Any more details on what specifically happened to the valve spring? You said it came off, what do you mean by that? Did the valvespring break? Retainer break?

They can come up with countless possible failure modes related to inadequate oil temperatures/operating temperatures, and even if they aren't very likely it'd be impossible to prove them completely wrong without having other people with the same problem pointing a finger at BMW.
