Yes and no. As of today we look back and everyones problems were resolved and people received extended warranties and new engines and for the most part everyone is happy, but that's a revisionist assessment of the situation.

When the engines started blowing up BMW blamed the failures on overrevs and improper oil in some cases and customers had to fight hard in order to get their cars fixed. Take a look here and read some of the posts if you don't beleive me...
