Doesn't that smack a bit of revisionist history.
Most historians agree that the Americans won the war with victories over Burgoyne and St. Leger at Oriskany, New York; Bennington, Vermont; and finally at Saratoga, New York. Prior to these defeats the British were still in an excellent position, but a variety of mistakes probably prevented them from winning the war.
These American victories were critical because they convinced France to recognize American independence and brought the French directly into the war as military allies. The French Alliance changed the face of the war for the British; because it evolvled into a world war.
Even without the French, we were doing pretty damn well on our own, so don't go getting all uppity.
