[Quote] Blackhawk Museum

As the Director of the Blackhawk Museum it is my responsibility to the Museum Board, the Museum members to protect the Museum and its reputation and to be a good partner in the community we serve. Following the driving incidents of this past weekend Cars & Coffee event and the owners of cars leaving the Plaza in an unsafe manner, the Danville police have reviewed all videos from the past six months. What they see is not an isolated case, although the BMW incident could have had serious consequences and that does not include the legal situation that the car owner is currently dealing with, but a growing pattern of dangerous driving by a growing number of car owners leaving the event. This is compounded by the increasing number of people taking videos which further promotes the illegal driving, and from the police point of view that makes them complicit. As much as the video gallery will need to stop, it has provided proof of who the offending cars & drivers. This afternoon following a lengthy and very-to-the-point call from the Danville Chief of Police, he has required that we come up with a plan to stop the problems that are a serious safety concern to town and residents for which he is responsible. Between now and next week I have to decide if the Cars & Coffee event is something the Museum should continue or not, and the consequences good and bad to the Museum. This week we received many notes from participants in support of the event and who condone the actions of the minority. If we are not to go the way of the Irvine event due this problem, it will take the collective help of our true car community to ensure we have a safe event each and every month, not just when a police car is around, and to maintain a zero tolerance to such actions. The support for the event and the benefits have been wonderful for our Museum and the car enthusiast community but we're at a turning point. I don't want to think that the efforts of our docents and event supporters and our Museum team since April 2013 have been in vain....but we will need to have everyone's support and cooperation to correct this situation and keep our Cars & Coffee event going for all the right reasons.[Quote]
