Ronin is second, Frankenheimer did a great job at recreating an old style car chase (which was his intent).
2nd place for me is the chase in the British film, Robbery
was was made the year before Bullitt
by the same director, Peter Yates. It was the realism of this film, when seeing it, that made McQueen push for Yates to be the director of Bullitt
and you can the similarities between the two.
3rd place for me would be The French Connection
which does have another connection with Bullitt
in that stunt driver Bill Hickman, who drove the black Charger in Bullitt
also did The French Connection
