Honestly I do not know if it should be done or not. Like I mentioned, it is expensive.

This is right out of Mike Miller's Lifetime Maintenance Schedule.

"M Double Clutch Gearbox: every 30,000 miles if you can get the oil
BMW is trying “lifetime fill” with the optional M Double Clutch Gearbox on the E90-family M3, and this gearbox requires a special lubricant: BMW DCTF-1 Pentosin. As per always, I recommend changing it at 1,200 miles and every 30,000."

How do you like your X1? I think BMW did a very nice job on that model. Right size and shape.
