My problem is that i have the perfect spot for a nice safe but my wife has it filled with shoes. The second best spot for the safe is a slightly odd size and i would have to spend about $800 more than the safe that fits perfectly in the other space due to the odd size. Puts the total delivered price tag at around $2000..... which as we know buys lots of ammo or a few nice firearms.
Just need to do it though. I don't like having a small arsenal in my bedroom with plenty of ammo to boot. We don't have kids and my wife is smart about it but need to get them secure. She came home and their was a strange pick up truck parked in our drive way. She didn't know who's it was and didn't see our dog through the glass front door. So she called the sheriff to have them run the plates (cause the truck looks stolen) and they sent an officer to clear the house since my wife alerted them to the plethora of weapons and ammo we have. ......I guess i should have told her that my friend was going to park his truck at our house that day and ride with me. Oopps. We got home just before they towed it. Cops were totally cool about it. She kept apologizing for wasting their time and they kept telling her no problem and not to hesitate if the same thing happens in the future.
I just need a place to secure them, don't even need the safe aspect of it. Don't need 30min fire proofing, they are all insured. I just want a secure place to keep the weapons and the ammo. I suppose the fire proofing would be good for the ammo, but i do keep them in air tight ammo cans, would likely add a little bit of time in a fire... It seems that heavy gauge security cabinets are just as rare as cheap safes.
