The calibration can be lost at low battery voltages, so it's the best place to start troubleshooting without scanning codes. If they go out, you know it's getting to be battery time.
What do you mean by turn your steering wheel lock to lock? Do you mean to turn the wheel all the way till it locks and cannot go further? Should the engine be on or just the electronics.
Sorry for the multiple questions. I'm not sure I understand your troubleshooting
