Glad to report that the vibration in the steering wheel (75mph - 85 mpg) was fixed. The shop put the front wheels on the Hunter 9700 road force balance machine and one of the wheels was off by 1oz. Added more weights and the vibration is gone.

I guess sometimes you have to start with a systematic approach to the elimination process, by looking at the most obvious thing (wheel balancing).

To UrbanDK:

BMW E90 M3 centerbore is 72.56mm and the APEX wheels are 72.6 mm. That 0.04 difference is not a cause/suspect for the vibration.
