Proper Mods to a 1911 are like Ruf mods on a Porsche 911, they blueprint and make everything that is there perfect, only a true enthusiast will know what you have when he (I was going to be PC and say he/she, but come on) sees it, but you will know it when you touch it, not to mention when you shoot it.
You can feel the difference just between lower cost factory guns and their more upscale cousins.
Edit: I know just enough about custom 1911s to be dangerous, I have stopped myself from researching because that leads to buying
