That doesn't stop some people. But Llumar makes a product called Air Blue which is almost completely clear (80%) yet rejects 50% of infrared; people have compared its blue tinge to the way Mercedes AMG windshields look from the factory, so I can't imagine it causing a problem with the cops. There doesn't seem to be a lot of information out there about it, but I'm thinking about getting it done with the hot Texas summers around the corner. The only potential issue is that in Texas, registration and inspection stickers go on the windshield, plus I have an apartment parking sticker, so I'd have to leave a corner area untinted for those; I'd have to see whether that aesthetic would bother me.
AirBlue is pretty much totally transparent. The only distortion would be if you were say standing at the passenger fender looking at the driver side A pillar. It does keep the car A LOT cooler inside.
