Thanks I tried that last night and it got rid of a lot of it with the Q-tips. But it got into the paint and caused minor marks and scratches so I took it to a body shop for an estimate to get it sanded and buffed. Hope it works out well.

I think acetone is part of your problem. AFAIK, extended exposure to acetone will soften the clear coat to the point where it will begin to rub off. You may have damaged the clear coat.
I know this sounds crazy but you would have been better off using a razor blade to gently scrape it off and then lightly buff the clear coat, similar to how runs are removed from fresh clear coat.
