FWIW Schomp has opened a PUMA case each time I've taken the car in for the Increased Emissions. Thanks for the recommendation - I'll keep his info handy for next time (and here's to hoping I don't have to use it).

BMW's warranty has been quoted to me at 3x that cost and isn't based on current mileage (which is where I have the most need since time expired well before the mileage). There's a thread in the General section that tipped me off to Assurant vs BMW warranty, price & coverage - there may be additional details there, haven't checked it in a couple of weeks.
I fill with either Conoco or Shell 91 octane, except when I blend some 100-octane for autocross (half and half). I doubt that fuel has impact on the fuel pump, unless it's full of debris. For minor impurities I'd expect the filters to catch it before it damages the fuel pump.

I've read that the BMW warranty varies quite widely from dealer to dealer. Based on their unwillingness to deal on a car, I'd expect Schomp to be at the high end of the possibilities. At 3-times the cost, it'd take a lot of expendables to break even.

I'm like you, with only 25,000 miles so far.
