The "clunking" you get when shifting the DCT in neutral ( and almost certainly the MT when low speed declutching) is the result of torque reversal in the drivetrain. Basically there is a small amount of play in the propshaft, differential and driveshafts that is taken up when the engine is applying torque to the drivetrain...when you remove this torque (by declutching/shift into neutral) the drivetrain "unwinds" causing the clunking noise.
This is absolutely normal? Sounds "painful" and I though something was wrong. In my case, usually happens when declutching and turning (like when I'm parking)
